Creed (The Apostles' one, not the band)

You knew it was coming. The jokes are abundant regarding our new series on the Apostles' creed... Last week the band played some Creed songs before the gathering. I overheard some people telling visitors... "welcome to journey, we don't normally play Creed but we are doing this new series on the Apostles' Creed, so you know..." (and then proceed to act like we don't actually love the band. OK, Eric may not love the band, but he should).

So some say we should embrace the awesomeness that is Creed, while others (like Eric) shy away from the obvious tie in.

So in honor of our new series on the Creed (you know the Apostles' one) I bring you some fun facts on Creed (the band)...

-Creed is the first band ever to have 3 singles in the Billboard top 20 at the same time (The songs: Torn, My Own Prison, and Whats this Life For).

-The name was created by the band's ex-bassist, Brian Marshall. Marshall's former band was called Mattox Creed, and that's where he got the name from.

-Creed’s original name was Naked Toddler.

-Creed vocalist Scott Stapp challenged Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit to a charity boxing match - but the Bizkit singer did not accept.

Also we wanted to point out the other obvious connection... Our new series is not about Creede, Colorado. A small quaint mountain town that many in our community have come to love...

Join us this Sunday for week two in our series on the Apostles' Creed where we will look at the first part:

I believe in God the Father Almighty
Creator of Heaven and earth

other interesting facts about Creed and Scott Stapp

-Chris Seay and Doug Pagitt did a 1998 interview with mr stapp that was captured on video and played at a conference in october of said year.

-this video was a consolation prize at said conference because the promotional materials for that conference said stapp would be at the conference for the interview . . . a primary reason why one church planter from the northwest migrated with 3 other friends from the church to New Mexico to attend.

-stapp at the time articulated a geniune sort of faith that was being encumbered by his rock stardom off camera. He spoke of a meaningful youth pastor. Pagitt and seay found the youth pastor on the internet, made contact and set a golf date in florida with stapp, youthpastor, seay and pagitt. Leadership Network paid for that ministry.

-That Video became the pride and joy of all the pre-emergent posse. It was talked of and played at every possible opportunity. Including by the original group of knuckleheads who shifted gears at Journey back in the day in a abhorrent use of media as metaphor (see: worshiphousemedia.com for legitimate media). Judge that.

-Later as chris went to plant his church he took said LN video without permission or apology and mashed himself into it and into a new presentation that he ran on local houston CHRISTIAN TELEVISION. True.

finally and least importantly, wasn't stapp in a sex video with kid rock? just sayin'

Mitchell,

You will be glad to know we tried to drum up said video, alas to no avail. I saw it one time on Christian television during an intermission of a Carmen movie. True story.

Seeing the video for the outdated clothes and haircuts of Pagitt and Seay is priceless in and of itself. :)

Viva LN!
